A Donegal man who attempted to rape an eight year old girl is to be psychiatrically assessed before he is sentenced by the Central Criminal Court. Mr Barry White SC, defending, told the court this had been recommended by a probation officer who interviewed the 19 year old man.

In April the man pleaded guilty to attempted rape of the girl on August 5th, 1994. Mr Justice Carney remanded him on continuing bail to July 11th next.
