The woman, named locally as Alice McGlinchey (80), died when a fire broke out in the kitchen of her semi- detached home at Cockhill Road, Buncrana.

William O’Doherty, who lives in the adjoining cottage, learned of the blaze when two young men banged on his door about 3.30am.

He described how they and a fourth passerby tried to reach the victim.
