HEALTH officials in Donegal have confirmed that a six year old girl is being treated for bacterial meningitis at Letterkenny General Hospital. The child, from Carndonagh, north Donegal, is said to be improving after she took ill last week. At first it was thought the girl had flu but she was admitted to hospital when her condition deteriorated.

It is the second case of meningitis in the north west in a month. A six week old boy died from the disease shortly before Christmas.
