A Co Monaghan family doctor was directed by a judge at Carrickmacross District Court yesterday to give evidence on the condition of a patient.

Judge Flann Brennan told Dr Pascal Larney of Carrickmacross that he was obliged to give the evidence.

Dr Larney had been called as a witness on an application by the State under Section 28 of the Road Traffic Act to remove a driving licence from a bus driver, Mr Patrick Collins of Carrickmacross.

Dr Larney said in evidence that while Mr Collins was a patient he had not determined the man's condition but referred him for specialist attention. After further legal submissions the judge adjourned the case for additional medical evidence.
