THE HAGUE - A Dutch doctor has been charged with murder after assisting a terminally-ill patient to commit suicide.

Prosecutors in Leeuwarden said Dr Sippe Schat ignored Dutch euthanasia guidelines when he injected a patient with a fatal dose of insulin.

Doctor Schat has admitted administering the insulin to a 72-year-old cancer patient last April, but says he did it at her request.
