The DPP is considering further charges against a doctor in the Mater Hospital, Dublin, who is accused of sexually assaulting a female patient.

The 36-year-old foreign national, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been in custody since his arrest on August 6th and is charged with sexually assaulting the young woman nine days previously in the hospital.

When he appeared on remand in Dublin District Court yesterday, Det Gda Tom Waters objected to bail, saying the defendant was arrested in a taxi on his way to leave for England by boat. He added that the DPP was considering further charges.

Judge Murrough Connellan said he could not fix realistic bail in the circumstances and further remanded the defendant in custody to appear again on September 9th.
