The issue of security for doctors has been raised once again after an attack this week on a GP in Cork city. The Southern Health Board confirmed yesterday the attack had taken place.

It is understood a psychiatric patient attacked the doctor in his surgery. The board says it has offered the doctor involved any assistance he may require. Attacks on doctors in the Southern Health Board region are relatively rare. The board's GP unit distributed a protocol on security to all GPs last May.
