London - Ginger-haired DJ Chris Evans yesterday doubled his donation to the London mayoral campaign of Mr Ken Livingstone after his Labour rival in the race, Mr Frank Dobson, made a joke about redheads. "What Frank Dobson said is very offensive to people with red hair," the multi-millionaire said as he announced that his contribution would be increased to £200,000.
Mr Dobson, reacting to news that the broadcaster had pledged £100,000 to Livingstone, had told reporters: "I am somewhat relieved really, because my mum always told me to steer clear of redheads."
