A new attempt to unlock the secrets of the Lusitania, the liner torpedoed off the southwest coast of Ireland by a U boat during the first World War, will begin this week, the investigation's chief diver said yesterday.

Mr Des Quigley said his seven-man team would visit the wreck over a period of a week after an acclimatisation dive on the wreck of a U-boat in shallower water off Union Hall, Co Cork.
