A middle-aged handicapped woman is recovering in hospital in north Belfast after being beaten in her home yesterday. Police, who are treating the case as attempted murder, are appealing for information after the woman, who lives alone at Ardilea Court, Oldpark, received serious injuries to her head, face and body in the attack between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. Det Supt Sam Kincaid, who is leading the investigation, said it was "a most brutal attack on a lone, vulnerable woman". A spokeswoman for the Mater Hospital said last night that the woman's condition was stable.
