Louth County Council environment officials have removed over 36 tonnes of diesel sludge which was  found on a lorry container under the M1 motorway.

The sludge was in plastic crates. It is believed that the material originated from Northern Ireland and was abandoned under a bridge at the Dunleer exit. This is one of the largest ever finds.

Louth County Council has spent up to €1million disposing this type of sludge to date. The sludge is usually sent to Germany for disposal.
