Diageo has opened a €40 million factory in Waterford to manufacture a special ingredient used to make 'Guinness flavour extract'.

This ingredient will be exported to each of the 50 countries where the drink is brewed. Once fully operational the Waterford plant will produce the ingredient for 550 million pints of Guinness per annum.

The plant was formally opened by the Tanaiste, Ms Harney, today. Also at the ceremony was the Environment of Minister, Mr Cullen, and the city Mayor, Alderman Tom Cunningham.
