The Army bomb disposal team was called to a Limerick estate yesterday after a viable device was found outside a private residence.

The team was able to make the device safe without the need for a controlled explosion at the premises at Greenmount Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston.

The incident occurred shortly after 3am yesterday.

The device was then handed over to gardaí at Roxboro Road for technical examination.

Detectives are working to establish if the device is linked to gangland activities.
