A house fire in Co Derry last night has left a baby girl dead and five members of her family seriously injured.

Three fire appliances attended the scene on the Killyblight Road after the alarm was raised at 11pm.

The family of six had managed to get out of building by the time fire crews arrived at the scene in Dungiven.

An 18-month-old girl was taken to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry where she later died. Three other children - aged five, 10 and 12 - and their parents were treated for severe smoke inhalation.

It is understood the fire started in a bedroom of the detached bungalow and police believe it may have been caused by an electrical fault.
