Drogheda United moved to within five points of eircom Premier Division leaders Shelbourne with a 2-0 win at Derry City last night.

Alan Reilly gave the visitors a 16th-minute lead and Declan O'Brien sealed the win - Drogheda's sixth of the season - midway through the second half.

City boss Gavin Dykes, who was under severe pressure following Derry's poor start to the season, resigned after the game.

Drogheda have 20 points along with Cork and Waterford but lie second courtesy of a better goal difference.  Their two rivals do have a game in hand, however.

An 83rd-minute goal from Eric Lavine gave Longford Town a 1-0 win over Shamrock Rovers at Flancare Park.   The result moves Longford up a place to sixth.
