The town council in Killarney, Ireland’s tidiest town this year, has placed a derelict site notice on an occupied three-storey apartment block in the town centre, after a review of the appearance of buildings constructed under the urban renewal scheme operating in the late 1990s.

The council says the apartment block at Chapel Lane, a much-used pedestrian way, has become unsightly. This is not the fault of the tenants but of the owners and/or management, the council adds.

Officials had written several times to the address but had failed to ascertain who owned the building.

The busy Chapel Lane is used by pedestrians to access a supermarket in the town centre.
