Ankara - A Turkish court yesterday upheld a decision to remove the citizenship of a politician who caused a row by wearing her Islamic headscarf in parliament.

Turkey's strictly secular constitution bans Islamic dress in public buildings. Soon after her election to parliament last April deputies charged Ms Merve Kavakci with not asking permission to take up dual nationality when she became a US citizen some years ago. The cabinet then stripped her of her Turkish citizenship.
