The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing advice to six Irish people who are near the Libyan city of Benghazi, where troops have fired shots at anti-government protesters.
A spokesman for the department said the Irish nationals were in a safe location and awaiting information regarding a clear route away from the city because the roads in the area were "not necessarily safe".
He said the six people, who are working for a company in the Benghazi region, had been told to stay where they are for the time being.
A further 40 Irish nationals are currently in Tripoli in the west of the country, where there have been no reports of clashes or issues with flights or public transport.
They have been advised to avoid areas where there are disturbances or clashes.
