The closure of a dump in Macroom, Co Cork, is the beginning of a problem that will manifest itself in communities, all over Ireland, the Fianna Fail spokesman on the environment, Mr Noel Dempsey, has said.

Mr Dempsey said the Waste Bill recently passed by the Dail was a missed opportunity to deal comprehensively and in legislation with waste reduction". The problems now being faced in Macroom, because of the closure of the dump, would soon be common in communities all over the country, he said.
