Gardai in Limerick were last night pursuing a definite line of inquiry into the shooting of a man who was driving through the suburbs of the city with his brother and three children on Thursday evening. Mr Patrick McCarthy (38), a native of Limerick now living in Britain, had returned for the wedding of a family friend and was driving through St Mary's Park when he was surprised by three hooded men, one of whom had a shotgun which he discharged through the driver's door. Mr McCarthy suffered from superficial wounds and was discharged after treatment at the Limerick Regional Hospital.
