A man who was described in court as "a monster when he has drink taken" has been given a suspended sentence for attacking ambulance drivers and gardai who tried to help a man he had assaulted in Castleknock.

Judge Kieran O'Connor, who described Kenneth Rock as "a monster", said he had acted like a wild animal when he left one of the ambulance-drivers with temporary memory loss.

Mr Luigi Rea, defending, said Rock had a "Jekyll and Hyde" personality.

Rock (19), of Roselawn Grove, Castleknock, pleaded guilty to five counts of assault on various dates in 1999.

Judge O'Connor bound Rock to the peace for one year and placed him under probation supervision.
