The current deputy manager of Carlow County Council, Mr Ger Deering, is to named as the new National Taxi Regulator next week. Mr Deering's name was confirmed by a spokesman for the Minister for Transport, Mr Brennan, yesterday.

Though Mr Deering's name has not been formally announced Mr Brennan did say yesterday that the new taxi regulator had been selected and would take office in September.

"I will be making an announcement about that next week. We will be naming the person," said Mr Brennan.

"A new full-time taxi regulator, after a lengthy process, has finally been named, will be named next week."

A spokesman for the Minister confirmed Mr Deering was the candidate selected but said there were still contractual details to be finalised.
