The bell tower of a west Cork chapel has been dedicated to a bell ringer who served the church for 50 years.

The newly restored bell tower at Kilfaughnabeg church in Glandore was dedicated to Tim John O’Donoghue, from Glandore, a second-generation bell ringer and a Catholic.

Mr O’Donoghue lived close by the tiny Church of Ireland chapel, accessed through a tunnel cut out of the rock face overlooking Glandore harbour.

Family members gathered among parishioners at the weekend ceremony as the Very Rev Chris Peters paid tribute to Mr O’Donoghue, who passed away last January.
