The death took place yesterday of the president of the Genealogical Society of Ireland, O'Conor Don, at his home in Dun Laoghaire. Mr Denis O'Conor Don, who was 88, was the senior hereditary chieftain of Ireland and head of the O'Conor Don family. He is survived by his wife Madam Rosemary O'Conor Don, sons and grandsons.

Born in 1912, he was educated at Downside and Sandhurst, England. He served in the British army and later became an executive with the Booth Poole motor company. After his retirement he bred beagle hounds and was a Master of the Delgany Beagles.

He was president of the Dun Laoghaire Historical Society, president of the Dun Laoghaire Geneological Society, and a member of the Standing Council of Hereditary Irish Chiefs and Chieftains.
