Death of former C of I principal

The first principal of the Church of Ireland Theological College, the Rev James Hartin, has died

The first principal of the Church of Ireland Theological College, the Rev James Hartin, has died. He was also involved in the foundation of the Irish School of Ecumenics.

Mr Hartin was Professor of Pastoral Theology at Trinity College Dublin until 1989 when he was appointed Rector of Castlemacadam, Avoca, Co Wicklow. For most of the 1980s he was Precentor of St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin.

Mr Hartin died yesterday morning at St Colman's Hospital, Rathdrum, Co Wicklow. His remains will arrive at Castlemacadam Church at 6.30 this evening and he will be buried on Monday following a funeral service at 3 p.m.
