An Army bomb disposal team was called to a laboratory operated by the Department of Agriculture this afternoon to make safe some dangerous chemicals.

The team were called to the Bovine Blood testing laboratory at Model Farm Road in Cork city to deal with some picric acid which had crystallised, thereby making it unsafe.

Three jars were removed from the lab and destroyed via a controlled explosion.

The scene was declared safe at 4pm.
