London - The man accused of murdering TV presenter Jill Dando yesterday appeared in court.
Mr Barry George (40) - who changed his name by deed poll to Mr Barry Bulsara - went before Bow Street Magistrates in central London.
Mr George, of south-west London, is accused of shooting Ms Dando on the doorstep of her home in Fulham, in April 1999.
He spoke only once during the 15-minute hearing to confirm his name. He was remanded in custody until August 25th and a committal hearing was set for September 8th.
Cliff Richard is to head a television tribute concert in memory of Ms Dando, it was confirmed yesterday.
Stars of stage and screen are to perform at A Song for Jill - 18 months after the former Crimewatch host was shot dead.
