The regulator in charge of controlling the costs of electricity and gas will face a Dail committee in Leinster House today.

The Oireachtas Committee for Enterprise and Small Business will be addressed by representatives of the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER).

The office of CER chairman Tom Reeves has been criticised by Opposition TDs for allowing the ESB and an Bord Gáis to increase their prices in recent months.

Fine Gael's enterprise spokesman, Phil Hogan, said: "These price increases have made it extremely for households already struggling under the cost of living.

"Small business have also seen their overheads rocket because of rising bills for heat and light in their premises."
