The Communications Workers Union is to seek a substantial equity stake in Telecom Eireann and become the "third strategic partner", the union's general secretary, Mr David Begg, said yesterday. At the annual CWU conference in Waterford, Mr Begg unveiled a new employee share ownership programme. Under the plan, the CWU is hoping to buy a major share holding in Telecom, believed to be over 10 per cent.
