HARARE - An environmental pressure group yesterday urged a world conference to reject a proposal by Cuba to trade in sea turtles, also called hawks bills.

Species Survival Network, grouping over 40 organisations, said in recommendations to a 10 day Convention on Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) that Havana's proposal would endanger sea turtles not just around its territory but in the whole Caribbean.

The 138 member CITES meeting will vote on the issue later this week.
