Cross-border harmonisation of laws governing alcohol will be discussed today by government ministers from the north and south of Ireland.

Justice Minister Dermot Ahern and Northern Ireland Assembly Minister for Social Development Margaret Ritchie will hold talks in Dublin to consider possible changes in legislation.

During her one day visit to the capital, Ms Ritchie will also meet Social Affairs Minister Mary Hanafin on the continued close working between the two departments.

The Northern Minister will later see Housing and Urban Regeneration Minister Michael Finneran for a consultation on town centre planning and neighbourhood enewal before visiting two housing association sites.

Yesterday, Ms Ritchie travelled to Limerick where she visited the Shannon evelopment, Limerick City Mayor John Gilligan, and the troubled area of Moyross where she met Limerick Regeneration Agencies’ CEO Brendan Kenny.
