Zagreb - Croatians have fewer than three weeks to digest a landslide opposition victory in parliamentary elections before having to choose a successor to the late president Franjo Tudjman from nine candidates on January 24th.

Observers say the top contestants are expected to be the Foreign Minister, Mr Mate Granic, whose Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) will bow out of power for the first time in a decade, and Mr Drazen Budisa, leader of the Social Liberals.
