The former dean of law at NUI Galway, Donncha O’Connell, has just edited a book to mark the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) for Amnesty International.

60 Years, 30 Perspectives: Ireland and the UDHR, which is published by New Island Books, is a collection of essays by 30 social commentators examining the relevance of the document to modern Irish society.

It includes essays by Archbishop of Dublin Dr Diarmuid Martin, Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly, Seán Óg Ó hAilpín, Dr Maurice Manning, Fr Peter McVerry and Theo Dorgan. The book can be purchased in bookshops or ordered online at: www.amnesty.ie/60years
