Maynooth law students Cliodhna Potter and Peter O’Loughlin were the winners of the Silken Thomas Cup, NUI Maynooth’s inaugural inter-collegiate moot court competition, defeating a Griffith College team.

The finals were judged by a panel chaired by High Court judge Mr Justice John MacMenamin, with NUI Maynooth professor of law Sandeep Gopalan, and Anna Hickey of Matheson Ormsby Prentice.

The trophy is named in honour of Thomas Fitzgerald, the 10th Earl of Kildare (Silken Thomas), who established St Mary’s College Maynooth in 1521. The college did not survive the Reformation.
