Gorey supermarket raided by knife-wielding robber

Man (35) appears in court over incident in Gorey

A man has been remanded in custody accused of robbing a supermarket in Co Wexford at knifepoint.

A man wearing a red balaclava over his face and carrying a knife walked into the store on Coach Road in Gorey at about 3.40pm yesterday and threatened staff, demanding money.

Nobody was injured during the incident.

Gardaí arrested a 35-year-old man nearby and recovered a sum of money.

The suspect was taken to Gorey Garda station where he was detained under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 .

He was charged and taken to Gorey District Court last night where he was remanded in custody to appear at Wexford District Court tomorrow morning.
