Crewman airlifted off Co Cork boat

A crewman injured aboard a fishing trawler off the Co Cork has been airlifted by helicopter to hospital.

A crewman injured aboard a fishing trawler off the Co Cork has been airlifted by helicopter to hospital.

A spokesman for Valentia Coastguard said the alarm was raised at 5.45am.

He said the man was aboard the Castletownbere-based Katrina Rose off the Fastnet Rock when he was injured. It is understood he was stuck by a heavy cable.

The Shannon-based helicopter was sent to the scene and the man was airlifted to Cork University Hospital.

The spokesman said the man had "serious injuries".
