ROME - Former Italian prime minister, Bettino Craxi, had a five-and-a-half year jail sentence upheld by the Court of Appeal in a decision announced late yesterday.

Craxi (63), who lives in exile in Tunisia, was absent as the Appeals Court upheld his conviction for corruption and illicitly financing his Socialist party.
