Over 4,000 craftworkers in local authorities and health boards throughout the Republic are expected to have voted overwhelmingly for industrial action when their ballot concludes today. The workers are threatening to go on strike in pursuit of a pay claim for an extra £27.69p a week.

A further 30,000 manual workers in the public sector have pay relativities with the craftworkers and many of them are also being balloted for industrial action by SIPTU.
