GENEVA - Swiss authorities vowed to crack down on suicide cults yesterday and police stepped up their watch on members of the Solar Temple sect after five members, including two Swiss men, died in an apparent suicide pact in Canada. The five, including two French women and a Canadian woman, died in Canada's Quebec province on Saturday in a blazing house owned by a member of the doomsday cult. Most of the sect are well off professionals who are taught the world will end in fire and that to reach the afterworld they must die violently by burning.
