Strengthening the United Nations and improving EU-UN crisis responses will be discussed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Cowen and the UN Secretary-General, Mr Kofi Annan today.

Mr Cowen will meet Mr Annan in New York to review the progress made under Ireland's Presidency and discuss Iraq and the Middle East.

The UN mission in Liberia where 430 Irish soldiers are serving is also on the agenda.
