A family's home was petrol-bombed after a man remonstrated with a "joy-rider", the High Court in Belfast heard yesterday. A lawyer said the west Belfast man in told the "joy-rider" to clear off as he was endangering children.

"At 1.15 a.m. the next morning a brick was thrown through a window and it was followed by a petrol bomb," said the lawyer. The family escaped injury.

Clarke Austin (19), from Divis Drive, Belfast, who is accused of arson with intent to endanger life, was refused bail by Lord Justice Nicholson.
