A doctor acquitted on charges of sexually assaulting two women patients at the Mater Hospital has secured a High Court injunction re straining the Medical Council's Fitness to Practise Committee from holding an inquiry into allegations of professional misconduct against him.

Dr Aftab Ahmed said the committee was seeking to investigate the same charges of which he had been acquitted at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Mr Justice O'Higgins yesterday granted an interim order restraining the inquiry to Mr Rossa Maguire, for Dr Ahmed, a native of Pakistan with an address at Carrickvale House, Stackallen, Slane, Co Meath.
