London - The British government remained defiant last night after its plans to bring in performance-related pay for teachers were dealt a humiliating blow by the High Court.

In what unions and opposition politicians hailed as a landmark ruling, Mr Justice Jackson decided that the Education Secretary, Mr David Blunkett, acted unlawfully in setting the threshold standards for PRP.
