London - A British woman who has been in a permanent vegetative state (PVS) for more than 21 years should be allowed to die, the High Court ruled yesterday, after her family asked for her soul to be released from "limbo".

The 54-year-old woman has been in PVS since giving birth on New Year's Eve in 1978, when she suffered oxygen starvation during a Caesarean section procedure.
