Couple collect €16.7m jackpot

A lucky Co Waterford couple who scooped last weekend’s €16.7 million lotto jackpot said today they were “over the moon” with the win.

The couple, who wish their win to remain private, bought their winning Quickpick ticket at an Eason store in Dungarvan Shopping Centre on the day of the draw.

“It’s going to take time for all this to sink in, and we do expect our lives to change, but we’re going to take it slowly - for the moment anyhow,” they said today after collecting their windfall.

“The ultimate irony is that even though we now have the funds to go anywhere in the world we want to, there’s no chance right now of flying off to sunnier climates.”

The €16.7 million was the second-largest jackpot since the Lotto began in 1988 and brought to an end ten consecutive rollovers.
