Details of a new pay claim which has been presented to the Minister for the Environment, Mr Dempsey, on behalf of the State's 800 councillors were revealed at a weekend conference. More than 400 delegates attending the event organised by the Local Authority Members Association were given details of the pay claim by their chairman, Senator Jim Walsh. He said councillors were seeking a salary based on a quarter of what members of the Seanad received, which would be about £5,700.
