A former Dungannon councillor, Mr Owen Nugent, died yesterday as a result of injuries received in a road accident on Wednesday. Mr Nugent is understood to have been walking near his home on the Coalisland road when he was struck by a car.

He was rushed to the South Tyrone Hospital in Dungannon after the accident and later transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, where he died. He served on Dungannon Council as an independent nationalist member for many years.
