Corrib algal bloom warning

A large portion of Lough Corrib, Co Galway, has been affected by an algal bloom which is believed to be caused by nutrient wastes discharging into the lake. "The worry is that if continuing efforts are not made to reduce nutrient inputs to the lake, blooms of this nature will become an annual feature and impair the lake as an angling amenity," said the Western Regional Fisheries Board manager, Mr Michael Kennedy.
