A middle aged man died in a fire, which gardai believe may have been started by a heater, at his home at Lower Oliver Plunket Street, Cork, last night. The man was dead on arrival at the Cork South Infirmary Victoria Hospital.

A man in his 70s died after he was knocked down on the Galway Road by a car in Loughrea, Co Galway. The man, who is not from the area, died at the scene.
