The late Irish blues guitarist, Rory Gallagher, is to be honoured in Cork where he was raised by having a city-centre plaza called after him.

Cork Corporation has agreed to rename the Paul Street Plaza after the Donegal-born blues man who died in London last year. The plaza will in future be known as Rory, Gallagher Place.

The move follows a proposal by the Green Party councillor, Mr Dan Boyle, who pointed out that Gallagher had already been honoured in several European cities which had named streets after him.
